If you are looking to upgrade your bathroom without going through with a full renovation, there are a few ways to expertly achieve this goal without breaking the bank. Even if you are thinking about a full renovation in the future, the following tips will help you along the way and you can utilize these elements into your future renovation while lowering the costs.

Add new, high-quality accessories

If your bathroom feels outdated and you have mismatched accessories, the easiest way to refresh your bathroom is by installing upgraded shower curtains, sinks, tubs or toilets. Instead of the shower curtain you got back in the 00s, try upgrading it to a fresh white one to match with your toilet and sink. This will give the illusion that your bathroom is much bigger than it actually is. To give your bathroom a pop of colour, try using bright towels and add a few plants that can survive in humid conditions.

Clean and add storage options to your bathroom

Your bathroom can accumulate a lot of debris and garbage over the years. It could be empty soap bottles, old toothbrushes and razors, outdated accessories like old hair dryers or straighteners, or toys that your children like to play with in the bath but never put away properly. The easiest (but least fun) way to update your bathroom is by decluttering it then doing a thorough cleaning. During the decluttering phase, throw out any items or products that you haven’t used in the past year, and purchase extra storage units, like a wicker basket or cabinets, to keep things you don’t use as often off of your countertop. You can also store bath toys and extra towels in these storage units to keep everything nice and tidy.

Once all the clutter is gone, you can start the deep cleaning of your bathroom. This will take a lot of elbow grease and hard work, but once it is done, the results will be immaculate! Take pride in keeping your bathroom clean by having a daily cleaning routine rather than waiting every month or so to do a full cleaning. Dedicate each day to clean one or two items in the bathroom (for example, Mondays clean the toilet, Tuesdays clean the sink, Wednesdays clean the tub, etc.) to ensure your bathroom is always shining!

Add new paint or wallpaper

If the paint in your bathroom is fading or if the wallpaper is starting to tear, that may be a sign that it wants upgrading! An easy way to bring new life into your bathroom and to make it feel brand new is to change the colour of paint or use high-quality and vibrant wallpaper. The good thing about bathroom decor is that it only needs to be updated once there are visible signs of damage, so you really only need to upgrade it every 15 or so years!

The kitchen sink may be one of the smallest details homeowners consider when upgrading their kitchen, however, a good kitchen sink can make a world of difference. Kitchen sinks are not only necessary for functionality, but can perfectly enhance and reflect your personal style. There are kitchen sink faucets that can match any design, from sleek and modern to elegant and traditional. With such a wide selection of available cabinet styles, it can be difficult to narrow down which design is most suitable to enhance your kitchen space.

To help assist you in your journey of finding the perfect kitchen sink, here’s a look at the five most popular kitchen sink types you can choose.

1. Bridge Sink

This type of kitchen sink is a perfect combination of old-fashioned, traditional style with modern technology. The kitchen sink lever and faucets branch off from one part of the sink, which requires two holes in the bathroom countertop instead of three. This style of sink is often accompanied with an undermount sink. It allows homeowners to clean around the area much more easily. Bridge sinks are most commonly used in industrial or rustic-esque kitchen landscapes as they can enhance the theme.

2. Center-Set Faucet

One of the most popular and commonly used types of bathroom sink is the center-set faucet style. Ubiquitous in most kitchens across North America, center-set faucets are designed for basins with three hole cut-outs. These types of basins usually have the spout located in the middle with handles on each side of the faucet. This type of faucet design is a perfect selection for homeowners that want to maintain a classic, timeless kitchen appearance.

3. Single-Handle Faucet

Single-handle faucets, also known as a single-lever faucets, have one handle. That singular handle operates the water temperature as well as the water pressure. This style of faucet is also quite popular as well. Most styles of the single-handle faucet only require one to two holes on the kitchen countertop. However, they can still work with other styles of kitchen basins with additional holes.

4. Deck Mount Faucet

If you’re looking for style, the deck mount faucet is a functional and stylish faucet design choice. This type of kitchen sink faucet style is mounted directly onto the kitchen countertop. However, some styles are mounted directly into the sink or the kitchen wall.

5. Contemporary-Style Faucet

The most stylish and modern of the list, contemporary-style sink faucets enhance any kitchen finish you’ve selected. However, it helps to match it previously to the kitchen colour theme you have. Ranging from square styles, to sleek matte black, each contemporary-style faucet fixture offers impeccable style to each kitchen space.

Aqua Bath & Lighting offers premium faucets in Edmonton at the most competitive prices. Our showroom offers a vast selection of traditional to the most contemporary faucets available for you to choose from. We can help you with anything you need from colour coordination to installation! Sink faucets may be one of the most overlooked and presumably small details of a bathroom renovation. However, a bathroom faucet can be the perfect, functional piece to showcase the style of the homeowner. Available in a number of different styles, designs and colours, it can actually be much more tricky to decide which is the best addition for your bathroom. With a myriad of faucet options that can complete your space, it’s helpful to browse through the main types to choose from to help make your selection process much easier.

To give you a sense of what bathroom faucet finish design types and styles are available, here is a look at the four main types of bathroom faucets you could choose from.

1. Bridge Faucet

The bridge faucet is a perfect crossover between traditional, old-fashioned design and modern technology. Bridge sink faucet design includes a lever and faucet branch off from one singular part of the faucet. The design has two holes implemented in the bathroom countertop instead of three. Bridge faucets are a popular design for undermount sinks. The combination offers the bathroom owner a sense of uniqueness and individuality as well as functionality. This type of faucet is often mounted onto the bathroom countertop, which helps keep the bathroom sink area easier to clean and far more hygienic.

2. Centre-Set

Centre-set bathroom faucets have basins with three-holes installed. This type of bathroom faucet has handles, which are often four inches apart and include a spout, two handles on either side of the unit. Some different centre-faucet designs have two handles mounted onto the plate of the bathroom sink. Available in a variety of different designs and finishes, centre-set faucets are a popular choice for homeowners that want to portray a simple, timeless and sleek design.

3. Single-Handle Faucet

Single-handle, or single-lever faucets are designed with a single handle that controls both the water temperature and the water pressure simultaneously. This type of bathroom sink faucet is arguably the most common and popular for both kitchens and bathrooms. Most single-lever faucets have just one or two sinkholes, however, some faucets do have additional holes and come equipped with a mounting plate to cover said holes.

4. Wall-Mount

Wall-mounted faucets are commonly attached to the bathroom wall as opposed to being attached to the sink or faucet counter. This type of bathroom faucet commonly extends over the sink and is available in a variety of different shapes, sizes, colours and finishes. Many individuals choose the wall-mounted sink fixture because of its clean, sleek appearance, which is stylish and modern. The primary advantage of a wall-mount faucet is that it also helps keep the sink area clean and hygienic similar to the bridge faucet.

Whether you’ve decided on the type of bathroom sink faucet you want or still need to browse, Aqua Bath & Lighting Calgary showroom has the perfect bathroom solution for you. Is your bathtub looking like it’s stuck in the past? That means it’s time for an update. Your bathtub is one of the most relaxing places in your entire home and it should be visually appealing to you as well! Your time away from everything to relax requires you to keep your bathtub in the best condition. Below are the signs to update your bathtub and put the focus back on relaxing in it:

The tub’s condition is deteriorating

Although bathtubs are fairly indispensable, they can be fairly susceptible to age and exposure to the cleaning chemicals used on it. Most bathroom materials often scratch, crack and can even rust easily. A bathtub that has a poor appearance leads to even bigger problems such as mould flourishing from the moisture trapped in spots that are cracked.

The decor is dated

Updating your bathtub to go with a bathroom revamp will not only appeal to you but potential buyers who want a more modern bathroom too. If your tub reflects the past and you simply don’t, then it’s time to upgrade! Changing the colour of your bathtub to more modern neutral tones is easy and can completely transform the look. Over time, the walls around the bathtub age and look less appealing, so give them a fresh makeover!

The tub doesn’t fit you comfortably

One of the main purposes of owning a bathtub is being able to relax in it and be completely comfortable. If your bathtub is too short or too narrow, that limits your mobility to get comfortable in any position. This can also be dangerous getting in and out as you could easily slip or get leg cramps from the tub’s uncomfortable shape.

The tub leaks

A leaking tub is one of the worst issues you can face when it comes to your bathtub. Leakage is very difficult to fix and it can lead to mould, or a buildup of mildew. Some try to repair the bathtub leakage, but this is often a temporary solution to a permanent problem. The leak will most likely open up again and can cause even more problems, so the best way to prevent this is by buying an entirely new tub.

The tub isn’t being used

If your bathtub is uncomfortable and you choose not to use it, your tub will not be used leading to more money wasted on keeping it in good condition. You deserve to enjoy warm baths in comfort after a hot day, so don’t let your older tub stop you. Replacing your dated bathtub with one that offers you luxury and comfort at an affordable price is your best bet!

Renovations are stressful enough without having to worry about something going wrong. The last thing you want is for the final result to look different than what you expected, which is why designing certain spaces like bathrooms should be left to the professionals at Aqua Bath & Lighting to ensure perfection.

When it comes to bathroom design, there are so many aspects that need to be considered such as different types of materials, style, lighting, and fixtures to name a few. It’s easy to get lost in the design process and make the following mistakes:

While style is definitely important, remember that functionality should be your main concern. There’s no point in having a pretty bathroom if it doesn’t actually serve a purpose. The design has to be relative to the space that you have so if the tub or sink you had your eye on is too large, do not try to force it in the bathroom as this will affect the space negatively. Work with the size and space you have and select designs accordingly.

Set a budget and stick to it as best you can. There may be some adjustments that have to be made during the process; however, having a number in mind right from the start will help you select items within that budget and help you stay on track. Incorporating a buffer into your budget never hurts because a design and renovation project can sometimes produce unexpected problems you may need to fix or update in the process.

Choose designs that make sense for your home and lifestyle. This is a space that is going to be used every single day and in most cases by multiple people. If you have children, keep that in mind when designing your bathroom as it could make a difference in certain areas and aspects. Optimize the space based on your needs and remember that functionality should be your main goal. Beautiful fixtures will definitely help, just make sure they are not in the way.

Lastly, while selecting tiles and paint colours are exciting and fun, aspects such as plumbing, electrical components and ventilation should be assessed before any of the other designing process begins. Without these things, a bathroom cannot exist and the wall colour will not matter. Make sure everything, down to the water pressure, works properly so that the planning and designing does not go to waste. The last thing you want is to have to renovate all over again.

If your bathroom can use an upgrade, contact Aqua Bath & Lighting today. As the top bathroom contractors in Calgary, they specialize in all aspects of design including bathroom sinks and so much more! Why Do Bathtubs Crack? How to Maintain and Repair Bathtub Cracks https://aquabathalberta.ca/why-do-bathtubs-crack-how-to-maintain-and-repair-bathtub-cracks/ Mon, 26 Oct 2020 11:54:48 +0000 https://aquabathalberta.ca/?p=1796 The post Why Do Bathtubs Crack? How to Maintain and Repair Bathtub Cracks appeared first on Aqua Bath. ]]>
Taking a nice, long bath is the perfect way to unwind after a long day but a large crack running down the center of your tub will prevent you from being able to do this. While a bathtub crack is not a major cause of concern, it can certainly interfere with your relaxing plans and if you ever notice a crack in your tub, it must be addressed right away to prevent further damage.

There are a few common causes of bathtub cracks and here are just a few:

Heavy items repeatedly being dropped

Large bottles of shampoo and conditioner or children’s bath toys slamming into the side of your tub can cause cracks to form in your bathtub. Whenever something heavy comes into contact with your tub, small dents will start to appear and over time, these will grow into larger cracks that are more problematic and noticeable. Do your best not to drop heavy items into your tub or slam them against the sides to prevent cracks.

The use of certain cleaning products

Many people do not realize that certain cleaning products can actually weaken their tub. Cleaners like bleach will erode the finish and gloss of your bathtub, allowing moisture to leak into the material, resulting in cracks. For this reason, you need to make sure that the cleaning products you are using are suitable for the material that your tub is made from.

Lack of support

Certain materials, like fibreglass, for example, are very flexible and can bend if too much weight is placed on top. This will cause the material to crack, so it is very important that you ensure your tub is installed correctly so that it is well supported. If you were not present when your tub was first installed, you can hire a plumber to assess the situation for you.

Cracks in your tub are more than just an eyesore and can lead to bigger problems if they are not fixed. Every crack will affect the structural integrity of your tub and the longer you wait to repair it, the bigger it will get, resulting in costly repairs and more headaches. Leaving cracks in place will also allow water to seep in and this is very problematic because it can cause mould to grow in your home. All of these issues can be prevented if you fix minor cracks as soon as you notice them.

Aqua Bath & Lighting can provide you with all of your plumbing fixtures. We have locations in both Edmonton and Calgary and offer a wide variety of bathtubs, so if your bathroom is in need of an upgrade, come and visit our showroom or contact us today!

One of the most action-packed areas of your home is the kitchen sink. Whether it is cleaning the fresh produce that you just bought from Edmonton’s farmer market, thawing a pack of meat, washing your dishes or getting water for cooking, your kitchen sink and faucet has a lot of work to do in a day. With such an intense duty to perform and extensive usage, the kitchen sink is subjected to a lot of dirt, grease and grime.

Prolonged exposure to food particles, cooking procedures and oily substances can make your kitchen quite unhealthy and prone to germs and unhealthy bacteria. Most of us wipe down our sinks after cooking. But most times just wiping down a surface may not be enough and what you need is an in-depth cleaning routine. Here are the top five tips on how to keep your sink clean and free from germ build up.

Clean up the kitchen sink regularly

This one is quite a no brainer as most of us make it a point to wipe down our kitchen sink after each use. Habitual cleaning of your kitchen counter and sink is one of the best practices to prevent the onset of germ build up. According to one study, kitchen sinks are believed to contain more than 100,000 bacteria per square centimetre while an average toilet hosts only 50 bacteria per square inch. This comparison and the startling statistics have raised quite a few eyebrows.

One of the best ways to prevent the onset of germ build-up is to regularly clean your kitchen sink using soap, water and a washable rag. If you have just washed meats, or your dog bowl, you can use a few additional steps. To create an effective cleaning solution, fill in your bottle with 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol, 1/2 cup water and 1/2 tsp castile soap. Then add about ten drops of lemon essential oil to the mix and let it sit for a minute or two before wiping dry. Make sure to dry out your sink entirely before using it next. You can also consider opening nearby windows and doors to help ventilation.

Drains and disposals

Unattended food scraps and buildups in the sink drain and disposals can be a thriving ground for bacteria and germs which can quickly get into our system through the utensils we wash in the sink. Make sure to keep cold water running every time you use the disposal. You can also consider popping a citrus and vinegar ice cube. The vinegar is a powerful sanitizer, and the citrus gets rid of lingering odours.

Dishes after cooking

It is best not to procrastinate doing your dishes after you are done finishing a meal. Unwashed dishes with food remains are potential sources of bacterial grime and of course foul odour that is likely to fill up your kitchen by next day morning. Make sure to rinse off your plates and load them in the dishwasher or at least soak them in soapy water so that even your sink doesn’t get greasy.

Choosing the right sink design that is perfect for your needs and is made from high-quality material is a must if you want the sink to be cleaned efficiently. Aqua Bath is specialized in providing quality designs for all your bathroom and kitchen needs, including sink designs. Their range of colours, designs and high-quality furniture is sure to alleviate the look and feel of any home.

We have recently opened a new bathroom showroom in Calgary, come check it out today.

Maintaining your bathroom can seem like a chore, but if you want it to keep looking clean and sparkly, it is essential to clean each and every aspect of your bathroom. Right from your tiles, to mirrors and fittings, everything in the bathroom is prone to humidity, dirt and moisture related issues. Cleaning your bathroom on a regular basis can help you to get rid of these problems that spoil the overall look and appeal of your bathroom. If you have been wiping your bathroom fittings and surfaces down frequently, you may not have too much work to do. But if you have been procrastinating, cleaning can seem like an endless job. Here are a few tips on how to get started.

Grout

It is essential to focus on cleaning grout as soon as dirt starts appearing. Prolonged dirt deposition can lead to mould which spoils your bathrooms aesthetic appeal. Luckily, new deposition is easy to clean and doesn’t require an extensive cleaning routine. Start with using an old toothbrush and a strong cleaning agent or a chlorine-based bleach which is recommended only if you have significant staining or mould growth. Ensure proper ventilation when cleaning grout. Make sure to protect your skin by wearing gloves.

One of the best natural and least harmful remedies to treating grout is combining baking soda and vinegar to form a paste. Apply this paste with a toothbrush, and you can easily cut through the dirt without causing any damage. You can also use some elbow grease and leave it on for 30 minutes. Simply rinse it off after and wipe with a dry microfiber towel. Your grout should look great now. If your grout looks still dirty, you can try using a ‘Grout Pen’ which looks like a marker and helps you to paint over the grout making it look shiny and sparkling new.

Wall Tiles

After cleaning the grout, focus on cleaning the tiles. Before you begin cleaning, take a step back and see what kind of finish your tiles are as this will decide what kind of products we will be using. Usually, vinegar works or ceramic tiles and you may even be able to use a scouring pad for plain tiles. For printed pattern tiles, choose a soft sponge or microfiber cloth and completely avoid vinegar or harsh scrubbing materials on marble surfaces. You can also run a hot shower for a few minutes before you start cleaning to open up the ceramic pores for better cleaning. You can use the vinegar and baking soda just like you used for grout cleaning for tiles as well.

Floor Tile cleaning

For floor tiles, you can easily use any of the methods that we discussed above. However, if you have a large surface to cover it can get extremely exhausting to clean them up. You can opt for a bathroom steam cleaner in that case. Steam cleaners work wonders on the dirt and grime present on your bathroom floor tiles. They are quick and effective and require minimal efforts. Be sure to check if your bathroom floor tiles can be used with a steam cleaner or not. For better results, before using the steam cleaner, give a quick wipe before with a cloth to remove larger particles of dirt so that they do not scratch on the floor.

Whether it is cleaning faucets, tiles, bathroom fittings or floors, it can be confusing to know which products to use. Thankfully, with their knowledge and experience in selling bathroom tiles and fittings, Edmonton based experts from Aqua Bath can help you by answering all your concerns related to bathroom fittings, cleaning and repairs.

A common theme with bathrooms today is sparkly, white and clean. However, that usually screams sterile, not portrayed as a cozy space you could relax in for hours to de-stress. Rustic style bathrooms are anything but sterile, with character that makes the room uniquely yours to enjoy. By using simple elements like wood, brick, concrete and a well-placed bathtub, you’ll be astonished by the rustic feel that’s brought to the space. To bring a natural look to your space, here are four ways you can create a rustic bathroom.

Have a Small Bathroom?

Grab yourself a freestanding tub, particularly an antique one, like the classic claw foot. Installing a freestanding tub, especially in a small bathroom will leave you with a massive amount of wall space, where you can have a frosted window installed. To make the room look bigger, you can also hang a large mirror or 3D wooden wall art to create that rustic feel you’re looking for.

Transform the Attic Space

Converting your attic into a functional bathroom, even if you create an entire master suite up there, will give you an authentic rustic bathroom like no other. As attics usually have higher ceilings with wooden beam supports, it’s the perfect room to create a rustic space. Keep the wooden beams, as that’ll be the main focal point of this rustic bathroom, and either paint them, stain them or leave them as they are. Have a massive claw foot bathtub installed to add to the atmosphere, along with miss matched tiles of your choice for the floors. Or grab tiles that look like hardwood, it’s up to you.

Install Wooden Floors

Flooring can make or break a room, and the bathroom is no exception. Whether you want to install real hardwood floors or an engineered version, they’ll instantly give your bathroom that rustic feel you’ve been looking for. These will also help to emphasize other wooden elements in your bathroom, even if they’re painted or stained a different colour.

Try Brick Detailing

Whether you decide to use faux brick or the real thing, adding it to your bathroom renovation is just what you need for that unique, rustic touch. This could be the only rustic element in your entire bathroom and no one would be able to mistake the kind of atmosphere you were going for. It’s the perfect focal point, and when paired with a freestanding tub and an antique chandelier, it’ll be the perfect combination of rustic and elegant.

You probably don’t want to renovate your bathroom more than once in a short amount of time because of a few simple mistakes. Bathroom remodels are expensive, take time, and are generally a stressful experience. To prevent these mistakes from happening during your bathroom renovation, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Have a View

If you’re renovating your bathroom, consider having a window installed. It will bring more light into the bathroom, as well as more ventilation if you install a window that can open. Of perhaps a skylight is more preferable, if you’re concerned about nosey neighbours.

Privacy

If you do decide to install a bathroom window, whether it’s in the shower or by the vanity, make sure it’s frosted. Applying a frosted coating won’t block out a significant amount of daylight from streaming in.

Toilet Placement

Do you really want the first thing people see when they enter your newly renovated bathroom to be the toilet? Probably not, which means that during the designing phase, make sure the toilet is placed in an area that is out of the way of the sink and shower or bathtub. Unless it’s an artful or teched-out statement fixture, it doesn’t need to be the centrepiece of the room.

Bigger isn’t Always Better

Focusing a bathroom renovation around the functionality of the space instead of trying to make the room as big as possible will be a decision you won’t regret. You could have a bigger shower that creates a more relaxing experience, but in turn, you would need to sacrifice counter space for it.

Storage

During a bathroom remodel, you can create the ideal space for your needs. Take advantage of that by having storage areas installed wherever you see fit. Choose a vanity with available space within, have a floor to ceiling cabinet for your towels. Even add shelving or a cutout in your shower to place shampoo and soap.

Lighting

Whether you don’t have enough lighting or its placement is casting unwanted shadows while you’re getting ready in the morning, poor lighting choices can greatly affect the usefulness of the bathroom. For lighting that’s always flattering, install fixtures at face level or overhead lighting that’s directed downward.

Centred Drainage

While it might look aesthetically pleasing to have a drain placed in the centre of your shower, it proves ineffective at doing its job. As people usually stand towards the centre of the shower, it’s more likely than not that you’ll be blocking the drain with your feet consistently. This will slow the drainage process and allow water to pool around you, increasing the chances of you slipping and falling.
